I actually finished a project, from start to finish (ends woven in and EVERYTHING) in about a day. My friend had her baby yesterday morning, and being as I am, I procrastinated her entire pregnancy making a gift. Well, baby is here now. There will be no “Coulda, woulda, shoulda,” in my vocabulary. I started a project yesterday afternoon. A lovely little baby hat in sea foam green Simply Soft Caron. Babies are pretty gross and throw up a lot, so I decided a soft acrylic would be the best bet for comfort, wash-ability and durability. Not to mention that it’s, for the most part, hypo-allergenic. The hat went so fast that I had time to think about how it wasn’t enough to be a stand alone gift. It needed friends. It needed…BOOTIES. So, at 11:30 at night, I started scouring the internet for booties patterns. Better than searching for bootys, because that will yield a whole list of results not expected. Possibly more fun though. Depends if you’re into that sort of thing. Not judging. We don’t judge on this blog…send me the links. Please.
I settled on these little cuties. They were SO easy, and took very minimal deciphering. I was running into some problems on making the straps, but it WAS 1:30 in the morning and tiredness was definitely a factor. Once I picked it back up in the morning, it clicked and I had no further problems. I did not know how to do a cable cast-on. Can you believe that? I’ve never had a pattern call for it. Fortunately You Tube is a knitter’s friend and savior. I did a search and the first result was exactly what I needed. So, cute, fun to make, and a new skill learned all in one! I settled on little plastic pearl buttons. I thought they looked kind of vintage, and very keeping in theme with handmade booties. I have pictures!
Did everyone just do a collective awww? I really loved how these turned out. A+++ on the patterns. Would knit again. P.S. My carpet has seen better days. Once the economy gets straightened out, it’s HELLO wood floors. Until then, maybe a visit from the Rug Doctor could improve its health?
