I have truly lost it. In addition to adding about one new Christmas knitted gift a week (I keep coming up with new great ideas of what to make people) I have come up with a knitted gift that needs to be done by Thanksgiving. I will see the recipient on Thanksgiving not Christmas and this is more of a thank you gift than a holiday present. I really would like to give this gift in person if possible.
This deadline is not total madness because I have a 10 hour car trip to Wisconsin that will be mostly knitting time. I had intended to knit Christmas gifts in that time, but there is the trip back for that.
The pattern I picked to make is Cashmere Cowl No. 2 – Lace Rib from The Purl Bee. The yarn is Jade Sapphire Cashmere-Silk 2-ply (400 yds, 45%cashmere/55%silk.) I used this yarn to make a top with short sleeves but bought enough yarn for long sleeves so I have enough to make two cowls, I think (I am only making one right now though.)
Progress so far:
I am absolutely in love with this project. I think it is fantastic. The problem is that I have been having a really hard time taking pictures that look as pretty as I think this is.
The other part of this project that is madness is my own fault. I assume that people like what I do. While knitting this cowl in front of my brother, who knows the gift recipient better than I do, he mentioned that he thought she would hate this gift. Apparently some people don’t like things around their neck. The person I am knitting for wears scarves so I assumed this cowl would be appropriate. Now I don’t know what to think.
I am still knitting this because I love it. Also, I plan on offering the cowl to the person it is intended for but explaining that if it is not something she would like she doesn’t have to take it. I can make her something else. I know grandma would love the cowl so I can give it to her if it comes to that.
Here is a close up that I like as a photo but not exactly for showing the knitting.
Sigh…Is it wrong of me to think about beating up your grandmother if she gets this cowl? I mean, only if the robbery goes wrong would I resort to that.
I LOVE this project! Who wouldn’t want it? If your cousin is as cool as you say she is, she will totally dig it. Tell your brother to shut up if he knows what’s good for him. LISTEN TO YOUR HEART, DEE ANNA! Never give up. Ours is not to try, ours is but to do or die. Or some crap. Good luck getting all your projects done!
Its funny, but that comment is what I needed. I had a yucky day and came home in a foul mood then typed that post.
I feel better now. I love to knit and I love this project, whatever home the cowl finds, it finds.
Look at me being all calm and relaxed.
Check back in 10 mins, I’ll be freaking out again that no one will ever love my cowl and in turn me.
I’m glad I could help, what are friends for? I am saving the swift picture for tomorrow. Burton was only able to get a couple of pictures that turned out well. I will write a knitting/biggest loser ever post. Just started working on Lisa’s bear project. Why do I keep starting NEW projects?
