I have two more scarves to finish (out of six!) for Lisa’s bears that are destined for Haiti. They take no time at all, not like making 6 BEARS! What was that girl thinking? Oh, she was thinking of the children and obviously is very motivated.
Our knitting group has done a Mother Bear Project before, sending 11 bears to Africa. I got a really rad postcard from the MBP people with a cute African kid on it hugging a bear. They send it out to everyone who donates, but I thought it was sweet. I don’t know if I kept it (I keep EVERYTHING, so it’s more apt to say I don’t know where it is) but if I had it or could find it, I’d post it. It’s just these kids love the heck out of the bears that people make to send to them. See cute slideshow here. Anyway, if you’re in the mood to do some charity knitting, I can’t say enough good things about this one.
I also would like to try The Dulaan Project sometime, but I can already tell that it would take me forever get a sweater done. It is definitely a physical need being met, as opposed to an emotional one, and more urgent. I encourage you to check it out and think about donating your time and warm wool to it. It’s on my list of things to do. Let’s hope 2009 is the year it gets done.
Would you like to see a picture of our bears? These were sent May 2007.
I guess you could say charity knitting appeases the part of my soul that knows I am a mean bitch deep down where no one can see. Oh yeah, and that mean bitch that lives on the surface too.
Charity knitting you’re currently doing or have done? Post in comments please! I always like good ideas.
